December 2017 Recap/January 2018 Goals

New year, new goals! Why does December always go SO quickly. I always wish it will come quicker and then when it’s here I want it to slow down but it never happens. January promises to be jam-packed with a visit from my mom where we will be Facetiming with my family and opening up gifts for Baby Murray. I am also trying to prepare for maternity leave at work which will start on February 1st, so I’ve been training my replacement. I also have a TON of doctor’s appointments lined up because I am almost into my third trimester.

Let’s see how I did with my December goals!


  • Go to the Vancouver Christmas Market for a date night with The Mister.
  • Go to the Make It show for a date night with The Mister.
  • Cook with The Mister once a week.
  • Have our annual ‘Grinch and Grilled Cheese’ night.
  • Have a technology-free weekend.


  • Read two books that are on my TBR list.


  • Drink at least 5 glasses of water a day.
  • Keep sodium to below 1500mg a day.
  • Buy crib and crib sheets.
  • Register for baby/child CPR and first aid course.


  • Listen to music daily.
  • Spend 30 minutes on self-care on Sundays.
  • Watch 12 different Christmas movies in preparation for Christmas.
  • Visit friends on the Sunshine Coast.


  • Declutter the basement storage.
  • Take an inventory of the food storage in the basement.
  • Clean out fridge in preparation for Christmas cooking.

Random Acts of Kindness

  • Bring in baked goods for my coworkers.
  • Buy a hot drink for a homeless person.
  • Send out Christmas cards.

I have added a category called Focus – it goes with my ‘Word of the Year’ for 2018!


  • Go on 3 date nights with The Mister.
  • Have a technology-free weekend.
  • Do a dreaded chore for The Mister.
  • Find a show that we can watch together.


  • Read 1 book.


  • Buy crib for Baby Murray.
  • Keep sodium to below 1200mg a day.
  • Drink at least 5 cups of water a day.
  • Do 210 squats a week.


  • Post here at least twice a week.
  • Spend 30 minutes on Sundays on self-care.


  • Complete the training of my replacement.
  • FaceTime with my best friend.


  • Move my clothing to The Mister’s closet, so that Baby Murray has her own closet.
  • Declutter under the bathroom sink.
  • Make an inventory of the food in our food storage AND our pantry.

Random Acts of Kindness

  • Donate any clothing or food that isn’t needed from the clothing and food purge.
  • Make cupcakes for coworkers on January 31st.

Here’s to an awesome beginning of 2018! Let’s do this!

  1. Your monthly goals inspired me to create my own in December. I had a great time – reading, doing a jigsaw puzzle (I got 2 more beauties for Christmas), baking, sending cards, and more. I haven’t made my goals list for January yet but I will soon. Good luck 🙂


  2. I’m currently making my own goal list for January and I’m so inspired by your random acts of kindness goals. I’m definitely going to have to add a few of those to my goals through the year. Happy 2018!


  3. Love that you’re making cupcakes for your coworkers on your last day 😉 How long do y’all get for maturity leave? (I know it’s 100xs better than ours…) Great idea adding the FOCUS category so you can keep up with your word of the year!
