Tea For Two & ‘Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes

When I was in college I worked for a bookstore, working there I met LOTS of awesome people who loved books as much as I do, and we’re still friends to this day which is awesome for me because even though I don’t work there anymore there are still people who do which means I get invited to some awesome book events! Last Thursday, Penguin Random House put on an amazing “Tea for Two & Me Before You” event, based around Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

After telling us about some new books that mothers would love just in time for Mother’s Day they showed the trailer for the Me Before You movie(which I hadn’t seen before and I’m stoked to go see!) we had some tea, sandwiches and petit fours all the while discussing in individual groups and then as a whole some difficult topics that are covered in Me Before You.

This book isn’t my typical mystery book that I go for but I picked it up after reading a ton of mystery books and needing something ‘light and fluffy’. I definitely knew nothing about the book because I would definitely not describe it as ‘light and fluffy’ but nonetheless it was a great book dealing with some hard topics. I fully expected it to have a Hollywood ending but I was 100% satisfied when the book ended. There is a second book called After You which continues on with the main character from the first book. I’m currently reading it so I won’t comment on it until I’m done.

After discussing the book, drinking tea and eating some food we left with some other books that are coming out soon which I am excited to read as well. All in all, it was a great evening with books, friends and food. Nothing beats a night like that!

So tell me, have you read Me Before You or After You by Jojo Moyes? Do you want to go see the movie? Or, have you ever been to a book event like this?

  1. I’ve seen these books everywhere. And I’d really like to read them (I think), but they look/sound so sad… I don’t know if I could handle it. (I read historical fiction because I like escaping the sadness of this world- haha. So sad, modern books are the opposite of what I read!)

    1. They are 100% ugly crying sad…It was a HUGE mistake to be reading this on my way to work so no I don’t recommend it to you Louise, if you read to escape reality!

    1. Do it! The books are great! I’m curious to see the movie as well because I feel like there shouldn’t be too much they take out in order for it to work on a big screen so it should be pretty accurate.

  2. ohhh interesting! i didn’t know there was a follow up book – i’ll have to check it out! i definitely really liked ‘me before you’ but it was an emotional exhausting book for me. excited to see that it’s going to be a movie!

    1. That’s a great way of describing Me Before You – emotionally exhausting. The second seems to have started off really promising but I’m not liking it as much as the first. I am super stoked for the movie as well – everyone needs to ugly cry every once in a while, am I right?
