How To: Overnight Oats

How To_ Overnight Oats
There’s still 2 weeks until autumn hits but try telling that to my belly because it’s telling me it’s sick and tired of smoothies and cereal. The only thing that will appease my belly are overnight oats.

We know oats are good for us, so I’m not going to spend a whole paragraph telling you they’re good for you. I will tell you that I have no patience for long drawn out breakfasts that take more than 2 minutes because I wake up HANGRY! Overnight oats are my saving grace. I make the base in the evenings. Then, I just take it out of the fridge in the morning mix in whatever I’m craving and BAM! I’m eating breakfast.

The Base:
1. 1 part rolled oats with 1 part liquid. eg. 1/3 cup oats to 1/3 cup coconut milk, almond milk or cow’s milk.
2. Add a tsp to a tablespoon of chia or flax or both.
3. Add in 3 tablespoons of greek yogurt, flavour is your choice!
4. Add in any spices. Some good examples are: cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin spice,
5. Place in an airtight container with a lid. I use mason jars because they are pretty!
6. When you wake up, mix in anything you desire. Good examples are nuts, vanilla extract, seeds, chocolate chips, dried fruit, fruit, jam or nut butters.

Note: Sometimes I like a little extra milk in the morning, so I added a splash or two!

These are super easy and when made in an airtight container with a lid you can take it with you on your morning commute!

You can use any flavour combination that your belly desires but here are my faves:

1. Peanut Butter, Jam and Banana Overnight Oats
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cow’s milk
1 tsp chia seeds
3 tbsp plain greek yogurt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp jam
1/2 banana

2. Vanilla Strawberry Overnight Oats
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cow’s milk
1 tsp chia seeds
3 tbsp vanilla greek yogurt
dash vanilla extract
6 strawberries, chopped or sliced

3. Pear & Almond Overnight Oats
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cow’s milk
1 tsp chia seeds
3 tbsp plain greek yogurt
1 tsp chinnamon
dash nutmeg
2 tbsp slivered almonds
1 pear, sliced

So tell me, Have you tried overnight oats? What’s your favourite overnight oats combination?

    1. Tell me what you think! You can also warm them up a bit in the morning in the microwave if cold oats is gross to you but I prefer the texture to these oats than warmed ones!

      1. Just tried them this morning! I kept them cold, it was different but I liked it. I think I added too much flax seed for my liking (I used 1T flax seed, blueberry yogurt, cinnamon, and added fresh blueberries in the morning) so I’ll just decrease that next time. It was tasty!
